What is it like to be a robot?

Dr. Dustin Lazarovici, philosopher of science at the University of Lausanne, will give a short introduction about the thorny issues of consciousness and artificial intelligence, followed by an open discussion with the participants.

If advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence continue at their current pace, and computational power continues to increase exponentially, it is just a matter of time before machines surpass humans in every aspect of practical intelligence. But would such an intelligent machine also be conscious? Would it have a subjective experience of the world as we do? This question is related to the infamous mind-body problem - and its answer might very well lie beyond the reach of our current natural and technical sciences.
