Reatching into the Rabbit Hole - Press [Enter] to Begin: Life in a Gamified Society

It is the year 2080. With the rapid development of virtual reality technologies and digital existence, every state has created its own unified virtual platform that has been gamified for education, social interactions and activities concerned with everyday life. This unified game tracks its users and offers tailor-made opportunities for self improvement, all for a better life (designed by the state). Would this level of gamification make life and work more interesting? And at the end of the day, would you like to live in such a gamified world?

Games make everything more fun and interesting, and now, with rapidly developing technologies, they are more realistic than ever. Wouldn’t it be fun if our entire society was based on games? This can range from learning, to meeting people, to even being good citizens by completing tasks, collecting points and leveling-up!

In this event, we will dive into the world of games. We will first explore the gamification of tomorrow and in which areas of our lives we already experience it today. Sophie Walker, researcher at ZHdK, will be our designated rabbit leading us through this burrow. We will then have open discussions to explore different aspects of this possible future reality.

We live in a society that has learned to harness the power of gaming (for example, Fold It and OPower). A society that introduces these elements of gaming into our lives brings with it the promise of using new technologies, for better or worse. You are the protagonist in this scenario and you have the power to shape the direction of this society. Do you accept this quest?
